I NOSTRI EVENTI

Sicily's geographical proximity to the African continent is well known: the island of Lampedusa is only 113 kilometers from Tunisia. The closeness to Africa and its people is continually evoked on the occasion of the dramatic crossings of men, women and children who try to reach the door of Europe risking their lives. The meeting between Sicily and Africa is not an option but a necessary meeting, which today, alongside the tragic evidence of the victims of the desperate crossings, takes on concreteness in the presence of African communities rooted in the Sicilian territory, which contribute to redefine the landscape of our cities in intercultural terms. The Ghanaian community is present in the city of Palermo with more than 3000 people and is the largest African community and the fourth overall. Through the Ghanaians of the diaspora it is possible to get closer to a country in full development, whose stability has been recognized by many and indicated as a virtuous example for many African countries.
